Short and Simple

Early this summer, my family and I took a short and simple trip to the West Coast of Florida.  I love seeing lighthouses so this became a good excuse to go see a new to me lighthouse over in Captiva Island.

In the past, I would probably have planned a more expensive and overly complicated trip to fulfill my “needs”. However, I’ve learned to simplify the purpose of our trips and decided to find a hotel with amenities just enough to entertained my son while keeping us all happy.

One thing I have learned; even if your budget grows, keep it simple! This doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t choose a nice hotel or eat great food, rather it means that you can stay focused and clear on what matters in your life and focus away from all the excess garbage.

Guess what? My trip turned out to be by far the best and most relaxing weekend we have had in years!

I’ve learned that we tend to create our own stress through rushing, multiple tasking, and doing more then we accomplish in a single day… by letting go and living in the moment we can relax and enjoy the simple pleasures life has to offer. It is not always easy but it is possible!

The hotel included everything we needed; good size adult pool and a perfect infant pool which both included a restaurant that had great seafood and salads (tasty and healthy food is a big deal for my family, I will explain why in another post) What else could we ask for?!

We spent 2 days between the pool and beach right in front of the hotel and was the best decision for a weekend break that I’ve made in a while. We did not plan to visit anywhere else (except for the lighthouse on our way back home) just relaxing at the hotel without the feeling of being rushed to do a thing or be anywhere.

Believe or not I spent most of the time just thinking what was truly important to me and to my family. By this I mean what exactly give us joy? What makes my son happy? What is it that gives us a real satisfaction? Such moments of relaxation without a schedule allows us to think on our own; to enjoy the moment and to feel free from the every day monotony that can stress us out.

That Sunday afternoon we said our goodbyes to the West Coast and of course, stopped at the lighthouse on our way back home! I left our hotel with the best feeling in my heart; the feeling that I have accomplished so many things in just two simple days, my heart and my mind was in total peace.

Living with less allows more time to really pay attention what really matters. Sometimes less is more!
